Loki Trickster and Transformer is the third book on Norse deities within the Pagan Portals series. In short, this is a beautifully written guide to working with Loki, the trickster, sometimes considered controversial to work with. The book is packed with useful information about the infamous god, oath brother of Odin and favoured travelling companion to Thor. I particularly enjoyed how eloquent the author, Dagulf Loptson’s writing style is,  everything statement is  well considered, and at times, poetic. Writing this book was clearly a labour of love and Loptson’s devotion shines through every aspect of his writing. I have to admit, though, I was glad to see the necessary disclaimer when working with a chaos deity. Building a relationship with Loki is something that should not be undertaken lightly.

Inside you will find step by step instruction on bot understand and working with the various characteristics of Loki and genuinely useful tips on how to build a relationship with him. There are many interesting pieces of information, that may show Loki in a new light, and may not be widely known; for instance, in Saxo Grammaticus’s version of the myth of Balder’s death Loki is absent!  In each chapter, the reader is guided to create a specific item of devotion, for instance in chapter three, instruction is offered in making a Logathore Amulet, which enables the reader to develop a deeper connection to Lodurr – one of the many aspects of Loki.  I found these creative endeavours inspirational and refreshing, offering an unusual and enlightening step further in devotional practice.

In conclusion, this book is a perfect stating point in developing your relationship with the often maligned and overlooked god, Loki. I highly recommend it.

Pagan Portals – Loki by Dagulf Loptson

Loki Laufeyjarson is the famous trickster of Norse Mythology, who brings its pages to life with conflict, humor, and excitement. Far from being just a villain or a prankster, Loki is a god who brings necessary change into the world, transcends boundaries, and shines light on hidden truth. In this book, you will be introduced to Loki and the many masks he wears: whether he appears as the bringer of enlightenment, the traveling companion of the gods, or the ender of worlds. This is also an accessible guide to building a devotional practice with the trickster, where you will learn new ways to honor this often misunderstood deity. Open the door to Loki’s mysteries, and prepare to laugh, be challenged, and potentially change your life.

Pagan Portals – Loki is a bold and necessary look at the Trickster God of the Norse. The author deftly weaves together academic material and personal experience to give the reader a guide not only to better understand this often maligned deity but also to connect directly to him. An unflinching appraisal that offers a great deal of insight into Loki.” Morgan Daimler author of Pagan Portals – Odin and Pagan Portals – Thor.
