This book is a good introduction and guide for anyone who has felt a call to visit somewhere.

The author provides historical information as to why pilgrimages have been undertaken by people from around the world, and then discusses how they continue to be relevant to societies, as well as individuals today.

Throughout the book Thea Prothero shares experiences from those who have gone on pilgrimages, providing the background, as well as the practicalities, to enable the reader to plan their own journey. The suggestions the author’s gives being from their own preparations, gives the reader an idea of to make a physical, emotional and spiritual pilgrim’s journey. As is described in this book, the journey does not have to be long or difficult.  It is the energy and intention put into the journey that is important.

The final chapter, Thea takes us on the journey she had to postpone several times, this was especially interesting to me, as I thought I knew the area but had never heard of the Shrine of St Wite.
