Meet the author is a series of articles intended to introduce you to our wonderful authors. Learn about the books they’ve written, the spiritual pathways they’ve traversed and some fun little tidbits… introducing Karen Tate!

Tell us a bit about yourself…
I’m Rev. Prs. Karen Tate. I started my public writing by publishing articles about sacred places in Circle Magazine for Selena Fox and Dennis Carpenter. I’m a long time member of the Fellowship of Isis and Lady Olivia gave me the name Emissary Priestess of Isis and Sacred Geography when I was ordained at Clonegal Castle in Ireland. I was named “One of the Thirteen Most Influential Women in Goddess Spirituality” and have been called a Wisdom Keeper of the Goddess Spirituality Movement. I’m one of the ‘Original Podcasters’ hosting Voices of the Sacred Feminine radio show since 2009 with such iconic forerunners as Lydia Ruyle, Pat Monahan, Z Budapest, Riane Eisler, Starhawk, Carol Christ, Isaac Bonewits, and many more.
What books have you written?
Walking An Ancient Path, Sacred Places of Goddess: 108 Destinations, Goddess Calling, Voices of the Sacred Feminine, Normalising Abuse, Awaken the Feminine, Goddess 2.0, and I’ve contributed to numerous anthologies. Divine Feminine: Deity, Archetype and Ideal is coming out next year for Pagan Portals.
How would you describe your spiritual pathway?
A Goddess advocate and eco-feminist teaching/practicing at the crossroads of alternative spirituality, personal transformation and social justice.
What is something fun and quirky about yourself?
Goddess devotion fueled my life, and as a part-time travel agent, I married my interest in travel and Goddess by travelling to Her sacred sites. On a trip to Israel, my husband was offered 50 camels for me. Not sure if that was a good deal or not! I’ve ridden a camel in Petra, Jordan and have had tea in a Bedouin tent among kittens running all around.

What tips do you have for folk beginning their spiritual journey?
Follow the Divine Breadcrumbs to where you’re being led. Listen to your inner guidance or intuition. Don’t worry about being different or not conforming. Reconcile your spirituality and politics.
Which deity or deities would you love to have dinner with?
Isis, Sekhmet, Artemis and Medusa
What magical items would you take with you if you had to live on an island for a year?
Pen and lots of paper if I didn’t have electricity. Laptop to write if I did have juice.
