Meet the author is a series of articles intended to introduce you to our wonderful authors. Learn about the books they’ve written, the spiritual pathways they’ve traversed and some fun little tidbits… introducing Jane Meredith!

Tell us about yourself….

I’m sixty-one years old, though in my mind I’m thirty-seven. I love magic, reading and writing, rituals – especially co-created ones – and rivers, trees, travelling, and conscious relating. I call myself an author and ritualist. My background is a Bachelor of Education, with majors in Sociology and Politics, and those are the ways I think. I love teaching myth and magic, and ritual skills; I’m also a tarot reader and teacher.

What books have you written?

For Moon Books I’ve written: Journey to the Dark Goddess, Aspecting the Goddess, and Aphrodite’s Magic. Published elsewhere, I have: Falling Through the Tree of Life, Circle of Eight, Rituals of Celebration, and co-authored with Fio Gede Parma: Magic of the Pearl Pentacle, Elements of Magic, and Magic of the Iron Pentacle.

How would you describe your spiritual pathway?

I describe myself as a pagan. I have roots in feminist and peace activism. I have a strong history in the Goddess movement. I’m part of the Reclaiming tradition.

What tips do you have for folk beginning their spiritual journey?

I think we all began it the moment we were born, or perhaps before that, and that we are all intrinsically part of the earth and stars. So we’re already there. Beyond that, begin with what intrigues, delights, and meets you. It might be in your dreams, or a journey with a deity, or attending some events, or creating an altar, or meeting with a few friends to try creating a ritual together, for example.

What is something quirky about yourself?

I’m a grandmother!! I decided to be a writer when I was six years old. I have a feisty, ageing tabby-torti cat called Calypso.

What Deity(ies) would you love to have dinner with?

What a great idea! – though a little scary. Eve, Aphrodite, and Freyja are some of my special ones. And then Persephone is pretty intriguing… From the Kabbalistic Tree of Life, I’m going to choose Tiferet. And then – dinner with the Pearl Pentacle might be pretty amazing. Are they providing the dinner, or am I ? – cos I almost feel, with some of those, like I might be the dinner …

What magical items would you take with you if you had to live on an island for a year?

This island is already a magical place. I’m going to trust that if I live there for a year, at least part of its magics will be shared with me/revealed to me, and I will find each feather, leaf, and rock to be a magical item. Not to mention the elements and living creatures, and land itself. But I will take my fountain pen and a big supply of journals – and/or my computer if there’s electricity and internet! They’re magical to me.
